I’ve been a volleyball coach ever since I graduated college – I won’t tell you how many years that’s been, but it’s been a few.  When we moved to Southwest Georgia, I was astounded that there were hardly ANY volleyball teams in the area – I mean, WHAT?  What kind of school doesn’t have a volleyball team?

Lucky for me, Sherwood had recently started a team and I was able to coach there for a few years before taking a hiatus to care for my young boys.  I remember on one of my first days there, standing in the gym as the players filed in one by one.  I assessed them as they came in, observing their height, the way they carried themselves….and then in walked Sam – about 5′10″ of gangly arms and legs.  She was trying out for the team, had never played the game before but I KNEW.  She had potential. She was a goalie, looking for a fall sport to play – and although she may have been a soccer player, she was BUILT to play volleyball.  And so she did. And over a few short years her spindly arms and legs grew and she morphed into an outstanding athlete and a beautiful person.  And she’s currently a starting middle hitter and blocker for the SCA volleyball team.  Oh, and her long arms?  They can reach about 12 feet over the net.

Love ya Sam, enjoy your Sneak Peek!
